WiM — What I Meant for Android
Last updated: July 14, 2026

WiM is voice typing designed for speech that includes blocks, repetitions, prolongations, false starts, and fillers. Its default Layer 1 mode runs privately on your phone. Cloud features are optional, require Google sign-in, and require an active WiM Cloud subscription.

WiM is an assistive dictation tool, not a medical device. It does not diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any medical condition. Consult a qualified healthcare professional for medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment.

1. Voice and text processing

Local Layer 1 — default

Cloud speech — optional

L1 Cloud and Layers 2–4 upload the recording to WiM's authenticated Google Cloud backend. Audio is sent to OpenAI for transcription. Transcripts, derived speech context, and optional Script Prep notes are sent to OpenAI for reconstruction; Layer 4 may also send that text context to Anthropic. WiM does not store raw audio. Request logs contain operational fields such as user ID, layer, model, latency, and error type, not audio or transcript contents.

Simple version: a new install stays on-device. Choosing a cloud mode sends that dictation to the providers named above. Switching back to local L1 stops cloud speech transmission.

2. Accessibility Service

WiM uses Android Accessibility Service to find the text field you are typing into and insert the transcript you requested. If you explicitly enable Auto-Send, it can also tap the host app's Send button after presenting the completed text. WiM does not use the service to monitor unrelated activity and blocks dictation in password fields.

3. Account, learning, and sync

Google sign-in is handled by Firebase Authentication and provides an email address and unique user ID. WiM stores settings, learned vocabulary, corrections, session history, and personal speaking baselines locally. If cloud backup/sync is enabled, learned profile fields and session records are stored under your user ID in Google Firestore. Short derived pitch, energy, and speaking-rate summaries may be sent with cloud reconstruction; baseline history remains local.

You may export or delete your cloud account and data in the app. Deletion removes the Firebase Authentication account, Firestore profile, synced sessions, purchase-token hashes, and WiM subscription-entitlement binding. You may also request account deletion on the web. Deletion does not cancel the Google Play subscription; cancel it separately in Google Play. Local data remains until you clear app storage or uninstall.

4. Purchase information

WiM Cloud is an auto-renewing $5.99 monthly subscription handled by Google Play. Each subscription billing period includes 300 cloud dictations, including up to 20 Layer IV dictations. Google Play shows the applicable local price before purchase and processes the payment; WiM never receives card or bank details. To verify, renew, and restore access, the app sends the product ID, Play purchase token, and a one-way hash of the Firebase user ID to WiM's backend. The backend verifies and acknowledges the subscription with Google, then stores the product, base plan, Play order, subscription state, expiration and verification times, quota counters, entitlement, and a one-way hash of the purchase token. You may cancel anytime in Google Play; access continues through the paid period unless Google reports an ineligible payment state.

5. Reliability and analytics

Firebase Crashlytics, Performance, and Analytics receive crash traces, device/app diagnostics, performance timing, feature interactions, and device identifiers. WiM does not attach audio or transcript text to crash reports or analytics events. These services are used for reliability and product improvement, not advertising.

6. Providers

These providers process data to deliver WiM's features. WiM does not sell or rent personal data and does not use it for advertising.

7. Retention and security

Network traffic uses TLS. No system is perfectly secure, so WiM minimizes transmitted and retained data and keeps API credentials off release devices.

8. Your choices and rights

9. Children and policy changes

WiM is not directed to children under 13. Updated policies will appear at this same address with a new update date; material changes will also be surfaced in the app or store listing.
